Creating Images With Mood

Creating Images With Mood

I went out to take some photos yesterday after a strong cold front brought snow showers Friday and strong winds.  Funny how one can look forward to Autumn and the colors it brings and in a fleeting moment it disappears.  I spent a month chasing these colors and fought bad weather most days I attempted.

Yesterday was more of the same but this image I got from Heery Woods south of Clarksville Iowa presented me with this image and I thought it turned it good and presents a moody feeling.

Much Better Than This?

Much Better Than This?

Autumn does not get much better than this picture.  Went out for a drive this morning and ended up in Parkersburg Iowa and a low head dam on Beaver Creek.  I was ecstatic over the reflection of Autumn colors in the creek.  Yep does not get any better than this.  Sadly it will now be short lived and I may be able to eek out another week of colors.

Autumn At Brush Creek Canyon Preserve

Autumn At Brush Creek Canyon Preserve

I have been siding the house the past couple of days and headed over to Brush Creek Canyon Preserve north of Arlington Iowa to check out some fall colors.  I let about 6AM so I could arrive there at around sunrise which at this time of year is 7:15.  Everything went as planned and my goal was to see if Moine Creek was flowing after all the rain the past couple of days.  Moine is a dry creek during the dry summer months and this past summer was drier than normal.  I did not see much flowing more like a trickle which was disappointing but I followed it on down to Brush Creek and was pleasantly surprised.  Below is two of the shots I took while roaming the preserve all alone.

Vibrant October Morning

Vibrant October Morning

Sunrise this morning in Butler county. The color didn’t last long but it was vibrant while it lasted.  This is a 5 shot HDR image with no saturation or vibrancy added to the image.  What a great start to a colorful month.

Last Summer

Last Summer

I had a fever last night from a bug I picked up someplace but when I woke up this morning my fever was gone but I decided not to share at work.  I saw the sky was lightly decorated with clouds and decided to venture out to take my last summer sunrise shot for months to come.  This was the spot on a hillside in SE Butler county.  Fall comes at 3:02 this afternoon and I was glad to see summers last sunrise.

My Most Popular Post So Far

My Most Popular Post So Far

Sharing on social media takes a lot of effort to be seen and persistence to get noticed.  Today persistence paid off as the image below was shared to Instagram and tagged with the country_features hash tag.  The image was noticed by an admin for the group @country_features and it took off from there after she featured it.  The group is large with 75k following.  So far after the feature at 11am it has garnered 1350 likes.  Another humbling experience for me to watch this happen.

An Early Autumn

An Early Autumn

It appears as though Autumn is making an early showing this year.  Most likely because of the extreme dry August.  The following pictures are from Mallory Park this morning south of Hampton Iowa.  Time to make plans for my fall picture taking.  Seems like this season came from my blind side.  In a month leaves will be mostly gone.

Bully

Bully

Just loved the way this picture of a bullfrog turned out.  I have a Koi pond in my back yard and this year we have had 4 resident bulls.  This one has become quite accustomed to people and will not jump until a three foot space is breached.  I especially like the duck weed clinging to his face.

3 Weeks Later

3 Weeks Later

Here I am three weeks later and I am still processing and uploading images from my Eclipse trip last month.  The Badlands images I took have me really driven to return next May when things are much greener, should be interesting photo’s until then here are a couple more I finished today.
