Am I an Artist?

Am I an Artist?

You know one of the nicest comments I could ever receive came from a gentleman on a group from Facebook, Iowa Through The Lens.  I have felt for some time I have developed into an artist as many of my photos in recent months take on a painting type look.  I feel many Artists see light and color and put it on canvas to replicate what they saw, no dark shadows or washed out skies.  Digital photography should be no different as you capture the light and post process how it looked.  This is why I shoot HDR.

But the comment on the picture below, confirmed my beliefs on what I was thinking and working towards all along, and in the process have developed my own style and brand, I just needed someone other than family or friends to confirm it.  Thanks Ed King for the kind words.

“There are lots of good photographers on this site and they shoot awesome pictures. You sir are not just a good photographer, but an artist of great talent. Another masterpiece.” – Ed King

Fairfield No. 5

Fairfield No. 5

On my drive this morning I ran the gravel road separating Butler and Grundy counties. Around New Hartford I saw a small church a mile in the distance and headed towards it. There was an older lady in the ditch in front of her house where the church is. I asked her if she would mind if I took some picture of the Chapel.

We talked for a while and she also as a school house on her property. She offered to let me in to both buildings. She also told me she recently moved and old farm house in and was having it restored to the early 1900’s. She maintains the property all by herself and she was busy cutting the weeds in her ditch with a corn knife at the age of 74. I was so glad I stopped and asked her. She is doing so much to preserve the past by herself.

I found an article on her here. http://www.thegrundyregister.com/…/project-seeks-identify-l…

New Tires Required

New Tires Required

This morning I was going to Walmart in Waverly Iowa to get a new set of tires as two years of gravel travel has taken it’s toll on the current set.  With my upcoming trip to view the eclipse in August I needed them more than if I stayed local until fall.

I planned on leaving before sunrise and yes giving the old set of tires one last gravel excursion.  I knew it would be a great sunrise with the partly cloudy skies when I left.  I was correct and got this nice sunrise shot over a corn field and a lone tree in the distance.  I liked the way the rays of light shined from the clouds.

Summer Ground Fog

Summer Ground Fog

Been waiting for the ground fog to take place this summer season and I was not disappointed this past Saturday morning.  Ground fog occurs when the dew points are high and the temperatures are cool in the lower lying areas and it occurs over the fields the most due to the green vegetation in the fields of Iowa.  These two shots were my favorites from the morning drive.
